A defining test of Hard Enduro
Organised by Extreme Clube Lagares, the event forms an official round of the championship under FIM regulations, welcoming Championship, Junior, Women’s, Youth and Senior categories to compete across a demanding multi-day format.
Hard Enduro is defined by its raw and unforgiving nature. Riders must navigate a course built from natural and artificial obstacles including rock gardens, steep climbs, riverbeds, and technical bottlenecks, racing against both the terrain and the clock.
Extreme XL Lagares embodies this definition perfectly.
Championship battle intensifies
Following a dramatic opening round at 24MX Alestrem, the championship fight arrives in Portugal finely poised.
Billy Bolt leads the standings with 29 points, holding a narrow advantage over Manuel Lettenbichler on 28 points. Just behind them, Teodor Kabakchiev sits third with 22 points, keeping the pressure firmly on the leading duo.
The chasing pack remains tightly grouped, with Mitch Brightmore and Ashton Brightmore continuing to build momentum early in the season, while experienced contenders like Mario Román and Eddie Karlsson look to capitalise on the technical demands of Lagares.
Further down the standings, riders such as Wade Young and Matthew Green will aim to make significant gains as the championship begins to take shape.
With minimal points separating the top contenders, Round 2 represents a critical moment in the early championship narrative.
Next generation rising in Junior category
The FIM Hard Enduro Junior World Championship continues to showcase the sport’s future stars.
Ashton Brightmore leads the standings on 33 points, closely followed by James Moore with 26 points and Toby Shaw on 25 points.
With the technical nature of Lagares placing a premium on bike control and decision-making, the Junior category is expected to deliver some of the most exciting racing of the weekend.
A global championship platform
As an official FIM World Championship, the series represents the highest level of Hard Enduro competition, combining elite professional athletes with a broader field of amateur riders competing on the same course.
This unique format remains one of the defining characteristics of the championship, showcasing both world-class performance and the resilience of riders tackling the same extreme conditions.
A Three-Day Battle
Extreme XL Lagares is not a single race. It is a progressive challenge that unfolds across three distinct race formats.
Friday: Endurocode & Night Super Special
The weekend begins with a 60km Endurocode stage through technical terrain, where riders must navigate control points under time pressure. The rider that has covered the most CP’S, with the shortest time of completion of the race wins. Championship Points : 1st to 3rd 3, 2, 1
Later, the action shifts into the city with the Night Super Special. A short, intense race under lights that sets the starting order for the Saturday Race.
Saturday: Extreme Penafiel
Saturday delivers the core of Lagares.
A 115km race across multiple timed sectors, combining long-distance endurance with extreme technical sections. Riders must manage fatigue one of the longest race days of the season if they want to secure points. The Rider that has covered the most CP’S, with the shortest time of completion of the race wins.

Sunday: Final Showdown
The event concludes with a high-intensity circuit race.
A 5km lap, raced over 2 hours plus one lap, with a Le Mans-style start. After two days of racing, everything comes down to this final test, which will be streamed LIVE on our YouTube channel and Extreme XL Lagares Facebook page. Points : 1st to 15th 20,17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Championship Impact
Extreme XL Lagares offers a maximum of 33 championship points across the weekend, with Round 3 in the USA, riders and teams will want to ensure they are not on the back foot before travelling across continents.
Lagares is likely to reward the most complete rider, not merely the fastest finisher on the last day.
