Official Statement on WERA and the 2026 Hard Enduro World Championship Calendar
This new helmet regulation stems from the FIM Racing Homologation Programme for Helmets (FRHPhe) and represents a major leap in global motorsport safety. Developed by the FIM’s International Technical Commission (CTI), FRHPhe-02 includes a multi-dimensional testing protocol designed to offer riders maximum protection against skull fracture, rotational brain injury, and shell penetration.
FRHPhe-02: What It Means
Helmets undergo advanced linear and oblique impact testing in 9 to 13 out of 22 locations across the helmet shell. Cheek pads must include a quick-release system identified by a red strap. Penetration resistance tests now simulate sharp-object impacts.
This approach is the first of its kind to account for rotational forces, a primary cause of brain trauma in real-world accidents. It also gives scrutineers instant access to helmet certification data via digital QR-code.
Dominique Hebrard, FIM CTI Technical Director, commented on the standard during the recent FIM Conference:
“… the mission of the FIM is to ensure safe and fair competitions. We are working hard to develop safety devices and protective equipment for our riders to always improve their protection…”

Homologation = No Modifications Allowed Once a helmet model receives FRHPhe-02 approval, no design, shell, padding or feature modifications are allowed without direct notification and re-approval from the FIM. Additionally, manufacturers must submit samples every two years for ongoing validation.
- Riders without an FRHPhe-02 certified helmet will not be allowed to start.
- Certification is verified at technical control by the QR label sewn into the chinstrap.
- Approved helmets must be unaltered, meet FIM fitment standards, and be in good condition.
- This new standard will become a mandatory rule in all FIM disciplines except Trial, Pedelec, and Land Speed Record (streamliners only) from January 1, 2026.
Safety first. Compliance always.
