Round 2 of the 2026 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship roars into life at Extreme XL Lagares, as one of the sport’s most iconic events hosts the second round of the season from 1–3 May in Lagares, Penafiel, Portugal.
Renowned for its raw intensity, unique setting and atmosphere, Extreme XL Lagares is more than just a race, t’s a full-send hard enduro festival where riders, families and fans come together for three unforgettable days of competition and community.
A hard enduro unlike any other
Blending medieval streets, river chaos and steep mountain singletrack, Lagares delivers a challenge found nowhere else on the calendar. Riders face brutal natural features carved into the Douro Valley, including relentless water crossings, vines, and endless granite steps that demand skill, endurance and guts.
With three distinct stages, Urban, River and Mountain, the event tests every aspect of hard enduro.
Beyond the course
What sets Extreme XL Lagares and the other 8 rounds of the HEWC apart is everything that happens off the bike.
The race village sits at the heart of the action, offering mechanical support, street food, live commentary and the latest gear from event and championship partners. As the sun goes down, the atmosphere continues with live music, late-night wrenching and a crowd that packs every obstacle, an electric environment.
Built alongside local clubs and volunteers who know every rock on the course, Lagares remains deeply community-driven while delivering a truly global showcase.

A global stage
The 21st edition of Extreme XL Lagares welcomes over 320 riders from more than 35 nations, underlining its status as one of the most international and respected races in the sport.
With 1,800 metres of brutal elevation, full media support, the event places hard enduro firmly in the global spotlight as the second round of the 2026 HEWC season.
